About This Course
An in-depth study of the three disciplines of Arabic rhetoric -‘Ilm al-ma’ānī’ (science of semantics), Ilm al-balāghah (science of expression) and Ilm al-badī” (science of embellishments). Taught by the author of Gist Of Arabic Rhetoric and عمدة البلاغة.
Course Tutor:
- Ustaadh Abbas afzal (15+ years experience of teaching Arabic)
- Abbas afzal completed the memorisation of the Qur’an at the age of 15 by his teacher Molana bashir salloo saheb at Madina tul uloom Kidderminster He did 5 years of the ‘Alimiyyah programme at Madina tul uloom (kidderminster) and was privileged to be taught by many esteem and supportive teachers and scholars, such as Molana Ahmed saheb, Molana Yusuf lorgat saheb, Molana Azad saheb and many more (May Allah protect them). He then went onto complete his studies and graduate from the Islamic sciences at Darul Ulum (bury) in 2005 where he was honoured to study under very prominent scholars and mentors, like Hadhrat Molana Yusuf motara saheb, Hadhrat Molana Abdur Raheem saheb, Hadhrat Molana bilal saheb, Mufti shabbir saheb, Sufi Taher saheb and many more. He then taught various subjects of the Alimiyyah programme at Madina tul uloom (kidderminster) for over a decade. He has the experience of teaching in various settings and age groups ranging from children in maktabs, adults in part time and full time Alimiyyah programme, Hmp prisons services for many years.
Objectives:
- Examine the arrangement of words given in a sentence to achieve specific pragmatic effects. Understand the linguistic mechanisms that provide inverted orders such as indefiniteness, definiteness, thematic structures, advancing, delaying, ellipsis, verbosity, etc. study how to express a single meaning in various modes of expression such as simile, allegory, and metonymy. Learn to communicate in succinct and implicit way. Investigate the Arabic embellishments that are employed by the communicator to beautify discourse.
Suitability:
- This course is for students who have studied syntax and morphology and want to enhance their understanding of the Arabic language. Beneficial for students of knowledge. Open to brothers and sisters.
Assessment:
- There are no exams. However, lessons are packed with exercises that challenge the learners’ ability and understanding.
Requirements:
- Ability to read basic Arabic.
- Pc/laptop with Internet connection.
- Access to a microphone to interact during lessons.
- Starts on September 18th 2023
